Julie Janeway, MSA, JD
Julie Janeway has been a Michigan life sciences and health law attorney for twenty-six years. She is the co-owner and General Counsel of Principled Healthcare Consulting, the principal attorney at Janeway Law PLLC, and also serves as the external General Counsel for Advize Health. Previously, she served as the Interim Chief Legal Counsel for an international healthcare company operating in four countries, and she practiced with Foley, Baron, Metzger & Julip, PLLC, heading the Healthcare Law Department. Her law firm practice included compliance, risk management, healthcare professional licensing defense, business/corporate law, employment law, pharmacy law, PSO/PSES (PSWP) development, audit response/defense/mitigation, independent internal and parallel investigations, contracting and other fields of healthcare and life sciences law, and all related training for healthcare entities, practitioners and practitioner organizations, and other businesses and associations in the healthcare and life sciences industries.
Since 2002 Julie has consulted and trained for a significant number of healthcare organizations, practices, hospitals/systems, healthcare equipment and device manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, and other healthcare vendors and research companies across North America. She also serves as the General Counsel and Past-President of the Michigan Association for Healthcare Quality and has served on several national healthcare organization Boards of Directors. In 2022, Julie was honored to be named as one of the 30 Most Influential Women in Law by Lawyer’s Weekly.
She is also a frequent presenter regarding current and emerging legal, compliance, risk, and other issues for numerous national and state healthcare and life sciences industry professional associations, and she has served as a legal commentator/contributor for ABC News. She emphasizes the real-world application of theory through experiential learning and practical implementation. Julie has a tremendous talent for breaking down complex concepts into understandable (often quite humorous) and usable information, and she is a big fan of providing lots of good resources!
Julie is an in-demand dynamic speaker and trainer who sees the world as an interactive, practical learning environment, and a place to meet new colleagues, work together strategically and collaboratively, and continually improve the business and delivery of life sciences and healthcare services nationally and internationally. She has published extensively as the author of several books and book chapters and a substantial number of legal white papers and peer-reviewed articles on legal, non-legal, medical, and medico/pharmaco-legal topics.
For eighteen years Julie taught Healthcare Law, Healthcare Administration, Healthcare Program Planning & Evaluation, Administrative Law, and Employment Law, among others, in the Masters’ and Doctoral programs as an Adjunct Graduate School Professor at Central Michigan University. She also taught senior-level undergraduate courses in fourteen different fields of law, including Constitutional Law, Civil Litigation, Crisis Response and Communication, and Sports/Entertainment Law. For the past twelve years, she has been an Adjunct Professor teaching Health Law, Healthcare Compliance, Healthcare Risk Management, Medical Malpractice and Licensing Defense, Medical Forensics and the Law, and the Law of Business and Corporate Organizations at Western Michigan University Law School.
In addition to her law degree, she holds a Bachelor of Business Administration with full minors in marketing, communications, sociology, and international business/law, a Master’s degree in the Science of Healthcare Administration, a Post-Law Graduate Certification in Asia-Pacific Region and North American Healthcare and Life Sciences Law and Compliance from Seton Hall Law School, and is ABD in her Ph.D. in Public Policy and Administration. Julie is licensed to practice in Michigan, the U.S. federal courts, and is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States.
